HotClip privacy policy
Last updated 13 October 2026. HotClip is made by Quantum Qbit.
What we collect
HotClip has no accounts, no analytics and no crash reporting. We never see the links you paste or the clips you make.
Ads
HotClip is free because it shows ads from Start.io: a banner at the bottom of the screen and, at most every few minutes, a full-screen ad when you start a clip. To pick and measure ads, the Start.io SDK collects device information such as your advertising ID, device model, language, approximate location from your IP address and app usage. Start.io's privacy policy explains what it collects and how to opt out. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads.
What the app connects to
To read a video and cut a clip, the app talks directly to YouTube (or the site the link points to). Once a day it downloads the latest version of yt-dlp, the open-source tool it uses to read videos. At most twice a day it reads hotclip.quantumqbit.in/version.json to see whether a newer HotClip is available. These requests carry no information about you beyond what any web request does (such as your IP address, seen by those servers).
What stays on your phone
Your clips are saved to Movies/HotClip on your phone. The app keeps a few settings on the device, such as how many clips you have made, which decides when it asks for a rating. Uninstalling HotClip removes the settings; your clips stay in your gallery.
Permissions
Internet, to read videos and load ads. Advertising ID, used by Start.io for ads. Notifications, to show progress while a clip is being made and to tell you when it is ready. Vibration, for small taps of feedback.
